Equipment

All of my sound & lighting equipment used is modern state-of-the-art and compact. I do not use tacky effects from the 70's such as rope lights & light boxes etc.

Great attention is paid to aesthetics. At the front of my rig, you'll see a 'starcloth' over a frame; meaning that your guests won't see all the unsightly cables, cases etc. Any cables which are in view, such as those going to the speakers, wall sockets etc are taped down for safety.

I do not use smoke machines, bubble machines or strobe lighting unless specifically requested.
Below is a selection of some of the equipment used. If you require anything specific which is not shown here, please do not hesitate to request it. I have access to a far more extensive selection of equipment when needed.

My sound system is provided by FBT and is more then loud enough for dancing, however it is not too loud that you can't have a conversation.

Music is played on a state of the art Numark CD Player & Mixer, and I normally have at least 5,000 tunes on CD's with an additional 10,000 on a top of the range laptop, just to make sure I always have that perfect song for you and your guests to dance to.

Lightings is supplied by two companies, namely Acme & EVL both are highly respect manufacturers, this helps me create the perfect atmosphere at your event. I also take time to light behind the DJ booth with strategically placed up lighters.

Music Guarantee

My entire database (above) comprises almost 50,000 tracks, at any function I will have at least 13,000 tracks with me covering a huge range of music genre's & era's. As long as I am given at least 4 days notice I can ensure that ANY song listed on my database is with me for your event. You are of course welcome to supply your own CD for any real rarities.

Choosing Your Tracks

When searching through my huge collection to create the request list, previously some clients became very excited at the huge choice available and drew up very lengthy request lists of over 70 songs! It is virtually impossible for me to play such a request list and also makes it very restrictive for me on the night and less able to react to what is happening on the dancefloor.

You will see that when you search for a track in the database below, next to the each track are 3 coloured buttons; Green, Yellow & Red.

The Green button adds it to a "Must Play" list,
The Yellow button adds it to a "Play If Possible" list
The Red button adds it to a "Do Not Play" list.

Please add songs that are very very special to you to the "Must Play" list. Maximum of 20.
The "Play If Possible" list is to give me an idea of the types of music you like. Maximum of 40.
Both of these lists have a maximum number of entries because, there are only so many songs that can be played in one night! Remember that for a 4-hour event, the maximum amount of songs that could be played is around 60! (Average of 4 minutes per song played back to back). There is no limit on the Do Not Play list!

One other thing to bear in mind when you are creating your request list. Many people choose their favourite songs when creating such lists but fail to consider whether the song is good to dance to! There are many tracks that are great pieces of music but will clear a dance floor. If possible when creating your request list, try to decide for each track whether you think your guests will really dance to it. If they won't dance to the song then you risk clearing the dance floor and making life very difficult for the DJ to build up a good atmosphere. On a few occasions I've advised clients that such and such a song will probably not work but the client has insisted that I play the song and then a large percentage (sometimes all!) of the guests leave the dancefloor!

For weddings especially; if the bride and groom are very into a specialist music style, it is usually a good idea to consider whether many of the guests are also into the same style. If they are then there is no problem. If they are not then you need to decide whether you want the DJ to play a lot of your favourite music and possibly have a very quiet dance floor and possibly disgruntled guests which could affect the atmosphere or to have more popular music played and thus a busier dance floor. The choice is entirely yours but if you are booking a professional DJ that you trust then it is a good idea to give them freedom to experiment and see what works and what doesn't.

One tactic that I often use which works well is to play more mainstream music and older music earlier on which will keep the elder family members happy and then as the night progresses (and more alcohol is consumed!) I can be more adventurous and slip in more obscure stuff and yet still maintain good numbers on the dancefloor.

The database below is updated a couple of times a year, meaning that it is unlikely to show any current chart hits. I always have most current chart hits, so even if a song you like doesn't show up when you search for it, it doesn't necessarily mean that I don't have it. Additionally, I have added most of my collection to this database but not yet EVERYTHING, so again, if there is a song that you want played it is worth either adding it to the Custom list or emailing/calling me to ask whether I have the track in question.

There is a filter which can be used to narrow your search, this will search by music genre. Please note that there may be some errors in this which may explain why a track you know of as 'House' is shown in the 'Easy Listening section'! (this section is only updated a couple of times per year, so can be a few months out of date when it comes to current chart hits)
