Mel & Kim’s Same Sex Wedding at Channels, Chelmsford
A Celebration Filled with Love, Laughter and Kylie
On a beautiful October Sunday, I had the pleasure of being the Same Sex Wedding DJ at Channels in Chelmsford, for the wonderful Mrs & Mrs Stapley-Heinds.
Kim first got in touch earlier in the year, and after meeting to chat about their plans, they decided my Twilight Wedding DJ Package was the perfect fit. With their civil ceremony taking place later in the day, at 5:30pm, everything was timed perfectly for an evening full of love, laughter, and great music.
The Ceremony and Speeches
The couple asked for my setup to be ready before the wedding breakfast, no problem at all, as my equipment can be in place and sound-checked within half an hour. Their speeches took place before dinner, and the atmosphere in the room was already full of warmth and excitement for the evening ahead.
The First Dance
Once the room was turned around by the brilliant team at Channels, it was time for that special moment, the first dance.
Mel and Kim chose “Every Day’s Like Christmas” by Kylie Minogue, a unique and meaningful choice. Kim loves Christmas, and Mel loves Kylie, so it was the perfect combination.
As they danced together, guests set off confetti cannons around them, a magical moment that lit up the room.
Dancing with Their Fathers
Afterwards, both brides shared a beautiful dance with their fathers to “Isn’t She Lovely” by Stevie Wonder, a song that perfectly captured the emotion of the moment.
The Party
From there, the party truly began. The dancefloor filled instantly and stayed that way all night — from singalong classics to rock anthems and plenty of Kylie Minogue tracks, of course!
To end the evening, Mel and Kim chose three songs that summed up their personalities perfectly:

Alice Cooper – Poison
Peggy’s Theme – EastEnders
As Peggy’s Theme played, they walked hand-in-hand through an arch of their guests, a perfect, joy-filled finale to an unforgettable celebration.
