Why Should I Throw My Wedding Bouquet?

Wedding DJ in EssexA Fun Tradition With a Modern Twist, From Essex Wedding DJ Ian Stewart

Throwing your bouquet might seem like a small detail in your wedding day, but it’s often one of the most joyful and spontaneous moments of the evening. It’s lighthearted, full of laughter, and makes for some fantastic photos.

As an experienced Wedding DJ in Essex, I’ve seen how this simple tradition can bring a burst of energy to your reception — turning a beautiful moment into something truly unforgettable.

A Moment of Pure Fun

There’s something timeless about that mix of excitement and anticipation when the music starts and everyone gathers behind the bride. The bouquet toss brings everyone together, it’s cheeky, spirited and completely joyful.

Single friends love the friendly competition, and everyone else gets caught up in the cheers and laughter. With the right song playing, it becomes more than just a tradition, it’s a shared moment of fun that gets the whole room buzzing.

Keeping the Energy High

Timing is everything. The bouquet toss works brilliantly as a transition point, often after dinner and before the dance floor officially opens, or between the first dances and the evening buffet.

As your wedding DJ in Essex, we’ll pick the perfect track to set the tone, something playful, upbeat and perfectly timed to build excitement before the next part of the night kicks off. It keeps your guests smiling and sets the stage for a packed dancefloor later on.

Tradition With a Modern Twist

Historically, the bouquet toss symbolised sharing good fortune and love with whoever caught it. These days, it’s less about superstition and more about creating a fun, inclusive moment.

And if you’d rather keep your original bouquet as a keepsake? Easy, have a smaller “throwaway” bouquet made for the occasion, so you can enjoy the moment without worry.

Making It Your Own

Like every part of your wedding, the bouquet toss can reflect your personality. Whether you go for a traditional moment, a choreographed toss to your favourite song, or even something completely unexpected, it’s your story, your style.

I’ve seen brides in Essex mix it up with themes, props, and even letting the groom join in! It’s always a hit and always full of laughter.

Songs for the Bouquet Toss

Music makes the moment, and I’ve created a Spotify playlist filled with fun, empowering and feel-good songs that are perfect for the bouquet toss.

You’ll find favourites like Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It), Girls Just Wanna Have Fun, Where Them Girls At, and plenty of singalong anthems that make the moment shine.

Save the playlist, share it with your bridesmaids, and start planning how you’ll throw that bouquet in style!

Throwing your bouquet isn’t just a tradition; it’s a little piece of theatre that adds laughter, movement and personality to your day.

If you’d like to make your wedding in Essex full of moments like this, together we can the perfect soundtrack, from the first dance to the very last song.

wedding DJ In EssexFrom Essex Wedding DJ Ian Stewart

Your first dance is one of the most emotional and unforgettable moments of your wedding day. It’s that point where everything slows down, the lights soften, and all eyes are on you, not just watching, but feeling the connection between you both.

As an experienced Wedding DJ in Essex, I’ve had the privilege of helping hundreds of couples find that perfect song. Whether it’s a romantic ballad, an acoustic classic, or something completely unexpected, the right track transforms your first dance into something magical.

Finding Your Song

Your first dance should reflect your story. Maybe it’s a song you listened to on your first holiday together, a track from your favourite concert, or a lyric that feels like it was written for you.

It doesn’t matter if it’s slow and soulful or lively and full of energy, what matters is that it feels authentic to you. And don’t worry, I’m here to guide you through it all, helping you find a song that’s not only beautiful, but also easy to dance to and perfect for your style as a couple.

The Style of Your First Dance

Classic Romance: timeless love songs like “At Last” or “Can’t Help Falling in Love” that melt every heart in the room.

Modern Love: emotional ballads from artists like Ed Sheeran, Adele, or James Arthur that speak to a new generation of romance.

Soulful & Smooth: think Al Green, Luther Vandross, or Stevie Wonder, where the groove and lyrics blend into pure magic.

Something Different: upbeat tracks that surprise your guests and set the tone for a lively night ahead — a great way to lead into your evening party!

To help inspire you, I’ve created a Spotify playlist of First Dance favourites a collection of love songs I’ve seen fill dancefloors across Essex for years.

Simply press play below, save your favourites, and start imagining your moment.

From Ed Sheeran’s Perfect to Etta James At Last, these songs have stood the test of time and continue to create unforgettable memories for couples on their special day.

Your first dance doesn’t have to be perfect, it just has to be you. Whether it’s slow and intimate or fun and choreographed, it’s a celebration of your journey together.

As your Wedding DJ in Essex, I’ll help make sure the sound, timing, and lighting all come together so you can just relax, smile, and enjoy that once-in-a-lifetime moment.

What an amazing night! This weekend, I had the pleasure of being both DJ and Wedding Host / Master of Ceremonies for Nina and David’s wedding at Saxon Hall in Southend, right here in my hometown.

From the moment guests arrived, you could feel the excitement and warmth in the room. Nina and David are one of those couples who radiate happiness, and their wedding truly reflected their personalities, relaxed, full of laughter, and bursting with energy on the dancefloor.

The Music That Made the Night

As a Wedding DJ in Essex, I work with the couple to always tailor the music to suit theier style, blending their favourite tracks with timeless crowd-pleasers to keep everyone dancing.

Nina and David’s playlist was packed with classics, soul favourites, and high-energy anthems that filled the floor all night long. From Al Green and Aretha Franklin to The Cure, Stevie Wonder, and George Michael, the music flowed perfectly from start to finish.

Once the party really got going, the dancefloor was unstoppable, a mix of disco, pop, funk, 80s, 90s, and modern hits that had everyone singing at the top of their voices.

Blake Hall is the perfect setting for an Essex barn wedding: timeless, elegant, and surrounded by beautiful countryside. Samantha & Tom’s day was filled with laughter, dancing, and non-stop fun, exactly what every couple dreams their wedding day will be.

All-Day Entertainment and Personal Touches

I was with Samantha & Tom throughout the day, providing background music, introductions, and hosting, before turning the barn into a lively evening party.

Their wedding breakfast featured elegant classical music covers, setting a relaxed atmosphere before the dancefloor came alive later in the evening.

The First Dances

Their first dance was “Always Remember Us This Way” by Lady Gaga, a beautiful, emotional moment that had everyone gathered around the floor.

That was followed by a touching father–daughter dance, “I Loved Her First” by Heartland, before the party officially began.

Wedding DJ Last Dance

The Perfect Ending to Your Wedding Party

How to Finish Your Essex Wedding on a High

Wedding DJ Last DanceWhen I meet couples across Essex to plan their wedding, we always talk about the big moments, the ceremony, the first dance, the speeches. But one moment that’s often overlooked is how the night ends.

The final song is the last memory of your wedding day. It’s the moment that seals the atmosphere, leaves your guests smiling, and often becomes the part everyone remembers most.

As your Essex Wedding DJ, I’ll help you plan a finale that feels personal, emotional, and unforgettable. Whether that means everyone arm-in-arm singing your favourite anthem or a romantic last dance just for the two of you, we’ll end your night in a way that reflects you perfectly.

Ways to End the Night

Every couple is unique, and the way you finish your wedding should reflect your personalities. Here are some of the most popular ways couples I’ve worked with across Essex have chosen to close their celebrations.

The Circle of Love

A heartfelt way to say goodbye. Your guests form a circle around the dancefloor while you and your partner either dance in the middle or walk around thanking everyone. It’s emotional, full of smiles, and a beautiful moment for your photographer to capture.

The Archway

Guests form two lines and join hands to create an archway. You can walk or run through together as your final song plays, the perfect mix of laughter, love, and celebration. Afterwards, you can make your grand exit or stay for one final singalong.

The Big Anthem

If you want to end with everyone on the dancefloor, this is the one. Choose a massive singalong track, the kind where every voice joins in and the room feels electric. It’s how many of the best wedding parties in Essex end, full of energy, love, and joy.

The Slow Dance

For a romantic ending, you can’t beat a slow song. Many couples replay their first dance to bring the day full circle — the perfect way to hold each other close before the lights go up.

Song Ideas for Your Last Dance

Here are some timeless favourites that always create the perfect wedding finale.

Timeless Classics
Luther Vandross – Always & Forever
Frank Sinatra – My Way
Louis Armstrong – What a Wonderful World
Jackie Wilson – Higher & Higher

Big Anthems
Queen – Don’t Stop Me Now
Take That – Never Forget
Florence & The Machine – You’ve Got The Love
Oasis – Champagne Supernova

Romantic Endings
Shania Twain – You’re Still The One
Lonestar – Amazed
Beyoncé – Still In Love
Maria McKee – Show Me Heaven

Feel Good Farewells
ABBA – Thank You For The Music
Tony Christie – (Is This The Way To) Amarillo
Vera Lynn – Wish Me Luck As You Wave Me Goodbye

Listen on Spotify

I’ve created a special Spotify playlist to inspire your own wedding finale, filled with the most-loved songs from real weddings I’ve DJ’d across Essex. Save it, share it, and start imagining how your night could end.

Make It Yours

Whether it’s laughter, tears, or that one last song where everyone’s singing together, the end of your wedding deserves as much care as the start.

As an experienced Wedding DJ in Essex, I’ll help you craft a finale that feels completely personal, the perfect ending to a day that’s been all about you.
